UNTAMED NEWSLETTER #3 - APRIL 29, 2006
Two months ago I sent out the first Untamed Newsletter advising that I was about to begin a web forum on my site ( www.untamedlife.com ). Well, the forum has been up and running since early March and little by little it is coming to life.
So far, I have done a lot of the posting myself and a few contributors from all over the world have put some comments up there as well. I would like to thank them for their input and also thank all of you that have taken the time to visit the forum. If you haven't yet, take a look and hopefully you'll find it to be of interest. I expect it to become even better in the future. I invite you to post your thoughts there and welcome your comments, suggestions and criticisms.
Apart from the various books that I suggested in my last newsletter that are now listed on the Resources page of my site, I have also added the movie 'Rabbit-Proof Fence', the book 'The Sexual Revolution' by Wilhelm Reich, and the websites www.awok.org/home, www.paleo-life.com (from Sweden) , and www.ranprieur.com/index.html.
In looking at the ‘Book Club’ section of the web forum, there have been no comments so far regarding the three books listed there - ‘The Politics of Obedience: The Discourse of Voluntary Servitude’ by Etienne de La Boetie, ‘The Long Emergency’ by James Howard Kunstler, and ‘Our Inner Ape’ by Frans de Waal. While, of course, the lack of response is just fine in that I want everyone to respond (or not) as they see fit, at the same time I would like to again put in a plug for all three books as they are each outstanding and fundamental to the ideas presented on my site.
Regarding the site itself, from the time that it went up in 2003 until quite recently it was for the most part made up of my book, 'Liberating the Caged Human Animal - An Introduction to Rational-Emotional Integrative Updating.' I have received a fair amount of feedback about it over this time, mostly favorable, and the majority of interest in it has had to do with its philosophical viewpoint, particularly regarding the topic of civilization and human animal domestication. While obviously this issue is central both to the site and to my perspective of things, I would like to increase the focus on the therapeutic aspect of what I present there.
I am a medical doctor and the philosophical agenda in my book is presented as the foundation of my therapeutic method whose objective is to enable people to optimize their well-being and vitality. The name that I gave to this approach is Rational-Emotional Integrative Updating (REIU) and in the book that has been on the site I provide the reader with a basic introduction to this method.
In the latter portion of the book I provide the conceptual basis of Unconscious Updating, a technique that I developed to enable users to change limiting emotional responses. I finish the book by indicating that I will provide the information regarding the actual technique of Unconscious Updating to those who are genuinely interested and committed to the objectives of REIU. Elsewhere on the site I state that I have written two additional books that explain this technique and indicate that these books are available by contacting me.
These two additional books are actually the second and third parts of my complete book, ‘Liberating the Caged Human Animal - Rational-Emotional Integrative Updating’. The book that has been up on the site until now is the introduction and the other two parts complete it by explaining the technical aspect of my approach in detail so as to enable readers to actually learn to apply REIU themselves.
Since 2003 a number of people have requested these two books (parts two and three) and I have sold them along with three accompanying CD's (that are used as tools in order to learn to access the unconscious mind) for a price that essentially covers the cost of the materials plus shipping ($40 US). I have also offered support to those who purchased these materials via email and additionally offered to have anyone interested come and visit me in Mississippi if they wished personal instruction. This additional support has been offered and provided at no charge.
I have decided to make a change at this time by making the second and third parts of my book as well as the audio recordings available through my website free of charge. I am doing this in order to increase awareness, access, and understanding of the method of Unconscious Updating, since I consider its use integral to the process of untaming and self-actualization. Part two, ‘The Unconscious Updating Technique’, is now on my site on the page entitled ‘The Book’ in a PDF format which can be read or downloaded free of charge. Part three, ‘The Unconscious Updating Technique - Variations’, will be accessible and downloadable online with the three audio recordings within the next couple of weeks (again free of charge). I will send out an email advising when it is available.
If anyone wishes to order hard copies from me of any or all of the above books/recordings you may continue to do so by emailing me at Hercules@untamedlife.com . I charge $60 (US) for the complete package of three books (that make up the complete book) and three CD's (including shipping in the US) which essentially covers the costs of copying and shipping (please note that the books are printed in a ringed format with plastic covers and not in a hardback style). If you wish to find out about the cost for parts of the complete package please contact me. I intend to continue to offer online and/or personal support in learning the method free of charge so long as that seems reasonable with respect to my overall time commitments.
For those who are interested in learning the Unconscious Updating technique and wish to access the material online the format will be as follows. Once you have read the second part of the book, ‘The Unconscious Updating Technique’, please contact me via email. At that point I will direct you to a hidden area of the website where you will access a quiz to assess your understanding of the technique. You will do the quiz online and I will review your answers to ensure that you have a clear grasp of the method. It has been my experience that this step is very important in order to enable those learning the technique to achieve the quality of results possible with it. Once it is clear that you have a good understanding of the method, I will direct you to the area on the site where the third part of the book and the audio recordings will be available. I will provide you with the information that you will need to be able to learn the technique independently. I will be available for support as you are learning the method and to help you understand how to apply it. If you require in-person assistance along the way, I will advise you how you may address that where you live or you would be welcome to visit with me in Mississippi so that I could help you myself.
What I am offering, therefore, is personalized instruction in the process of Rational-Emotional Integrative Updating to those who are interested in and committed to its objectives, free of charge. This is not a scam and it is not an infomercial. I have worked on this method for almost twenty years and am very interested in seeing it applied by those who are most likely to use it to its full potential. They would be people who are genuinely committed to becoming untamed in order to become their True Positive Selves. I am confident in my approach. I relish the opportunity to work with such individuals and I am excited to follow along with them on their journey towards their self-actualization. I know that there are few out there who are prepared to do this and the purpose of this website, above all, has been to connect with those few.
This topic of untaming and self-actualization is not just an intellectual curiosity for me. Having committed myself to this agenda, it is central to my life, both personally and professionally. Those who will take advantage of the opportunity that I am offering here will be like-minded and will realize that an approach such as Unconscious Updating will be invaluable and essential to enable them to effectively pursue their objectives. The fact that I am not seeking financial gain in offering my approach to others does not mean that I do not expect to benefit from my efforts. I fully expect this to be a mutually beneficial dynamic and know that having the right people use this approach is the most effective way for this to happen.
I will present some additional information about REIU and its evolution in order to further clarify the value and role that I perceive it to have but I will save that for another newsletter, which you should receive soon.
