Chapter 11 : COMMITMENT TO THE GOAL
The process that I introduce people to and help them become skilled in enables them to transform themselves from their present limited and negative form of themselves to become their True Positive selves.
To accomplish this transformation, one begins by determining for oneself whether or not one is even interested in such an option. The preceding pages represent the rationale that I present to explain its merit.
If the individual is not interested, obviously there is nothing to pursue. If the individual requires further clarification regarding either the underlying philosophical position presented or the objectives described, I would be most pleased to assist in this regard.
If the individual believes that it would be interested in such a transformation for itself, the next step in the process is to make a decision. The decision is whether or not it will commit its being on a consistent basis to become its True Positive self.
I assume that by now it should be obvious that this process of self-transformation is never ending. As you go from whatever your starting point is, you gradually become less and less limited and negative and more and more positive and self-actualized. By virtue of that you become healthier and more alive as you proceed in that direction. You never stop but eventually you just run out of time and die.
To accomplish this transformation, just like any other goal that one might aim for, the most important factor for its achievement is for the individual to make a commitment to it. A goal without a commitment is called a wish, and wishes do not generally come true.
Goals, however, are achieved and this achievement takes place because, having locked onto a target, the individual organizes its life to make it happen. If this commitment does not occur it will not happen. I cannot imagine a more challenging positive personal goal than the one that I have presented. I understand perfectly that from a small-picture perspective, at the present time at least, one does not have to strive to be such an individual to ensure survival. Therefore, the option to not pursue this agenda is certainly very real. Civilization allows and encourages us to be limited and negative versions of ourselves.
When one commits to this agenda, this process of self-transformation becomes the central focus of one's existence. To make it happen one must give one's best effort consistently, every single day for the rest of one's life to its achievement.
This is not a quick fix. Potentially anyone can do it. Anyone who has understood what has been presented in these pages has the basic tools to pursue the agenda of becoming its True Positive self. Each person starts from a different point, some closer than others to the target. Everyone can give their best effort for the rest of their life in the direction described. You can always give the best effort available to you at that time.
Aiming in the right direction and giving the best effort that one has to reach the goal are the most important factors in order to achieve it and both of these factors are within one's control. Each day that one gives this effort in this direction causes one's self-esteem to grow. Self-esteem is earned precisely by living in harmony with the fundamental agenda of life. The more time and energy that one invests in this regard, the greater the level of self-esteem. Anyone who is not going in the fundamental direction that I have described and is not giving a consistent effort to that end to a degree to be proud of cannot have high self-esteem.
Because I know that meaningful results can be achieved by moving in the direction to become one's True Positive self, but also because I know that such results are only achieved by those who give their best effort consistently in that direction, I have decided to work only with individuals who make such a commitment. I realize that any person has the option to make such a commitment, and since I intend to give my best effort in working with them, I cannot allow myself to invest to that degree without their reciprocation in something that is ultimately intended to be for their benefit. A lack of effort and commitment on the part of the person that I might be working with would simply indicate a lower level of goals than that which I have described here and would mean that we would have a different agenda.
