HUMAN ANIMAL LIBERATION

And thus there came to be many great nations,
which knew how to make temples,
And monuments,
And inscriptions in stone,
And wars,
And slaves,
And all the other things that are
necessary for civilization.

(R.F. Laird, The Boomer Bible)

Life has existed on Earth for about 4 billion years. A peculiar phenomenon called civilization was begun by a primate group which calls itself homo sapiens (the wise man) about 10 thousand years ago. According to civilized human apes, the whole history of life (and certainly that of our ancestors) except for the period of human civilization should be viewed in a negative light. From their self-congratulatory perspective, until our species began to become enlightened 10 thousand years ago, we were on the wrong path and undoubtedly suffered greatly for not yet having attained the high state of social and cultural development which we have now spread all over the world.

This viewpoint has been so widely accepted by our species that today there are few worse insults than to be called uncivilized (except perhaps to be called an animal). Civilization is the greatest sacred cow of all. It stands virtually unquestioned throughout the world today.

I am a medical doctor. I have an atheistic and evolutionary perspective. My attempt to understand the diseases of my patients led me to examine their lives as individuals and ultimately to analyze the history of life in general and that of our species in particular. We now number 6 billion and have risen to a position of great power on this planet. Nonetheless, it is my assessment that we are far more unhealthy today than were our uncivilized ancestors and that, unless we change radically in the very near future, our extinction is inevitable and will occur much sooner than most people imagine.

I recognize the tremendous technological creations that have come with civilization but on balance, both from an individual and species perspective, consider the reality of civilization to have been a disaster for us (and certainly for many other species).

I am not advocating a return to the Stone Age. This is neither possible nor desirable. Evolution dictates that we must always go forward. What I am advocating is a fundamental questioning of the basic tenets of civilization. It is my position that such questioning will lead to the realization that they have been anti-life and anti-human.

Civilization has been a brutal regime created to satisfy the greed and desire for status of a small proportion of our species while the rest have become their slaves, their domesticated animals, used by them to achieve their sick objectives. Since almost all of us belong to this larger group, accepting and embracing civilization means accepting and embracing our own enslavement.

Therefore, I encourage individuals interested in their personal well being to uncivilize themselves. My interest in doing so is both professional and personal.

From the professional perspective, I recognize that the term 'healthy civilized human' is an oxymoron. Since I understand my role as a physician to be assisting in the optimization of the health of my clients, I feel obliged to advise them of their need to become uncivilized for this to take place.

From the personal side, I am not happy with the present state of affairs both in this society and throughout the civilized world, and am even more distressed by the horrific future that I see facing my children and their descendents. Unless a very significant number of our species chooses to rebel against the powerful forces of civilization, I am extremely pessimistic about the eventual outcome (read 'Easter's End' by Jared Diamond in Discover Magazine, August, 1995 to give yourself a glimpse into the future).

I have spent many years now working on this problem and over that time developed not only the philosophical perspective that I am now presenting but also a methodology for individuals to use to liberate themselves from their domesticated civilized state. I have used this method personally and have also offered it to my patients over its years of development.

I call the method Rational-Emotional Integrative Updating (REIU). REIU is a means to update both your rational and emotional responses in a manner that brings your head and heart (for the lack of better terms) together to enable you to fulfill your personal genetic program in order to optimize your quality of life and well being.

Your genetic program defines who you are and is there to guide you through your life process. Civilized humans, like all domesticated organisms, have had their lives hijacked by their domesticators. The key characteristic of the uncivilized human animal is that it reclaims the control of its life by refusing to betray its genetic program. As an individual gets more and more on track with its internal program it becomes progressively healthier and more alive.

REIU works. Although it takes some time and effort to learn, it can be done by anyone of average mental ability. The major limiting factor in terms of results is the individual's degree of commitment to its self-liberation. Having offered this method now for many years to many people, I have come to realize that only a very small number are truly interested in becoming their self-actualized liberated selves. I have created this website in order to connect with this group to help them achieve their objectives.

I have written a three part book, "Liberating the Caged Human Animal" to explain both my philosophical perspective as well as the method in a step by step manner. The first part is entitled "An Introduction to Rational-Emotional Integrative Updating" and the second is called "The Unconscious Updating Technique". Both are available to be read or downloaded from this website at no charge.

If you read my book and are interested in learning REIU, this can be done either independently or with my personal assistance.

If you have any questions or comments about information on my website, or are interested in finding out more about learning REIU please contact me.

I also have a reading list that I would recommend for anyone interested in the ideas presented here, as well as a list of videos. Although I do not endorse all that is stated in these books and movies, I consider them to be pointing in the right general direction and so include them.

Learn to think and live outside of the cage.
